The Holiday Inn will be Geelongs first hotel in 20 years. It will become a mixed use space combining retail, office and an 180 bed hotel. Construction started in early 2021.
In August, 2018, Franzé Developments secured planning approval for a mixed-use development at 44 Ryrie street.
The Original Building
Glenn had taken many photographs of the empty building throughout 2018. A display suite went up for Ryrie Homes in Late November.
Demolishing The Building
We noticed that the building was being prepared to be demolished towards the end of February. By March 13, the site was empty. Not much happened for a while. This was partially due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
