First Warm Day After Restrictions Eased: Eastern Beach Was PACKED!

Jade Craven · November 5, 2021 ·

This was the first warm day after Melbourne exited from it’s sixth lockdown and Melbournians were able to visit regional Victoria. People were taking full advantage of it. This would have been awesome – if we hadn’t planned to go to the beach to do some kayaking.

I did a quick walk to get some photos of the crowds. It was packed! These photos don’t show just how crowded Eastern Beach was; I took these photos after people had started to leave. I hadn’t seen it this busy since Australia Day in 2020.

It was so awesome seeing people hanging out with their families and having fun. It was a bit disconcerting, after spending months doing the right thing and following all restrictions. I hadn’t been around that many people in a long time.

Things are hopefully returning to normal.

The Beach House at Eastern Beach is an institution. However, the venue hadn’t been open since 2019 when the former venue closed.

It opened again in December, 2019. I’m an insomniac, so rarely visit the waterfront in the mornings. I hadn’t been able to get clear photos of the building due to so many people visiting Eastern Beach.

These photos were taken during the 2021 lockdowns. There were a small amount of people exercising at the beach. I quickly got some photos of the building before continuing on my walk.

Mum and I went for a walk along the wave attenuator one evening to get black and white photos. It is a beautiful walk to do in the dark. You get great views of the waterfront and it has quickly become a popular spot for fisherman.

Wangim Walk Has Officially Opened

Last year, we shared photos of the new wave attenuator at Eastern Beach that had apparently launched. It formally opened in February, 2021. I went out with family shortly after it was opened to the public.

It has quickly become popular with fishermen and provides beautiful views across the harbour.
