In 2015, the Geelong council announced plans to acquire and demolish the building at 28 Malop Street to make way for a new laneway connection. Members of the community launched a campaign to stop the acquisition. In early 2016, it looked like the campaign was a success.
In late 2020, it was announced that the building would be demolished to make way for the laneway. In October, the owners of Guf Geelong posted on their Facebook page that they were moving to 73 Malop Street. In early 2021, the building had been vacated.
